Rain drizzles
upon rooftops of regret
as syllables are given
undeserved weight
and mind confines self
to simply survive-
reviving verbiage retraced
in disgrace's shadows.
I pass tattered tales
and beliefs battered
by shaded sighs;
through sight of indifference
and wooden lies
that hang heavy across heart.
A broken neon sign scrawls
"Talentless"
in dull letters
against greed's greying sky,
reminding me
of finding misfortune
in those misplaced smiles
you traced in betrayal.
This stage
looks different somehow
because now truth resounds
in ground and stucco ceilings...
your callous cries cling
to corrugated lean-tos,
as hexagonal hurts
shave stories
on endless rulers of ruin.
Your wire-mesh woes
hang from corners of corruption
as friendship falters
in feigned surprise
and jealousy stretches
like mere textbook perspective-
reflective of naught
but your own insecurities.
Just once,
I wished to be your equal
and occasionally...
you truly tried;
rising and falling
on waves of mutual admiration
until spite took a bite
of satisfaction
and inferiority
slowly stoked measured sorrows
across my soul.
